Carnival Lanzarote 2020

From 15th – 26th February

It’s here at last; the party to top all parties!!

The island really goes to town at Carnival time, starting with the capital itself; Arrecife!

Saturday 15th 

12 p.m midday – Traditional Carnival. Street parades with giant figures parading from the corner of the Charco (Las Cuatro Esquinas) and heading up the High Street, through Plaza de Las Palmas square, the Plazuela, up Ramón Manchón street to the stage at the José Ramírez Cerdá park. Accompanying the procession will be the devilish Los Diabletes, the Agaete music group and the Batucada Villa Pipol drumming band.

1.30 p.m. – midnight – Arrecife’s Daytime Carnival and Food Fayre in the José Ramírez Cerdá park with entertainment from various music groups.

Thursday 20th
9 p.m. – Drag Queen show in the open-air festival venue and performances from singer Cristina Ramos.

Saturday 22nd
11:30 a.m. – 1.30 p.m.  – Batucada drumming bands and Comparsa dance troupes parade through the streets from the Reducto beach to the harbour.
12 midday – midnight – Arrecife’s Daytime Carnival and Food Fayre in the José Ramírez Cerdá park with entertainment from various music groups.

Sunday 23rd
5 p.m.  – Carnival costume competition with categories for best children’s, individual, pair and best group outfits. Venue:  José Ramírez Cerdá park accompanied by performances courtesy of the children’s Murgas group and the Daniel de la Rosa Dance School.

Monday 24th
6 p.m. – 9 p.m.  – GRAND PARADE with  floats, murgas, dancers, drummers, traditional Carnival groups and masked Carnival characters from the Sports Centre to the open-air  festival venue.
9 p.m.  – Street procession from the open-air festival venue to the José Ramírez Cerdá Park accompanied by drumming bands and a DJ float.

Tuesday 25th
5 p.m. – 8 p.m.  – Children’s Carnival in the José Ramírez Cerdá Park with bouncy castles, giant inflatables and workshops.

Wednesday 26th
6 p.m.  – FUNERAL OF THE SARDINE. The sardine leaves the Town Hall and is paraded through the streets towards the Parque Marítimo Park accompanied by the murgas, dancers, drumming groups, the winning floats and widows in mourning for the poor sardine.

Arrecife’s 2020 Carnival is rounded off with the CEREMONIAL BURNING OF THE SARDINE and the masked ball at the El Almacén square.
