The CACT have collected over 800 documents and images of its history

Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the beginning of its establishment, the Centres of Art, Culture and Tourism of the Cabildo of Lanzarote are collecting and digitizing documents related to their history. This past summer, the popular campaign: “Fifty years together. Leave your memory of the Centres” was held, and now the website Digital Memory Lanzarote (www.memoriadelanzarote.com) contains over eight hundred archives, many of them unpublished.

During these months, over 650 images have been digitalized electronically, highlighting some previous ones promoted by the Cabildo of Lanzarote and which converted these spaces into Centres of Art, Culture and Tourism since 1964. This way you can see the old picnic of Timanfaya, or Guatiza Mill, as well as works in Jameos del Agua and Mirador del Rio, among others.

With the campaign: “Fifty years together. Leave your memory of the Centers” they have received generous donations from family collections and files from people like Larry and Liz Yaskiel, English settled on the island since the seventies and whose images show crowds of international visitors at the Centres

The ultimate goal is to create a documentary that is useful to both researchers and the general public. This initiative also seeks to highlight the historical social function of CACT and its highest category of symbols in creating a new cultural identity linked to the landscape and tourism.

The CACT and Data Centre requested the participation of all those who retain any document on Centres of Art, Culture and Tourism: photos, movies, documents, posters, etc….
