Lanzarote will become a movie set again with the filming of a science fiction film

Lanzarote will become a movie set between July 8th and August 4th for the filming of different sequences of “Evolution”, a Spanish-French co-production of science fiction with children as protagonists.

The film is directed by Lucile Hadzihalilovic, writer and director of films including “Innocence”(Best New Film Festival in San Sebastian, 2004.)

Tenerife Volcano Films production, a Spanish co-producer of the project has addressed the Cabildo of Lanzarote to show their interest in recording scenes in some of the Centres of Art, Culture and Tourism, as well as in other locations, especially in the municipalitys of Tinajo and Tias. In order to do this, the producer is negotiating the correct permissions.

The president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, has communicated to the production company the “satisfaction it brings to this island and its inhabitants the choice of Lanzarote for the filming of the movie. “In addition, he recalled the “special sensitivity shown in recent years by other national and international producers when working on a ‘Biosphere Reserve’ island, with a large area of protected natural spaces.”

In this sense, the president has expressed, in a letter to the manager of the producer company, Sebastián Álvarez, his confidence that ” the same will be expected from his team.”

And it is not the first time that Lanzarote becomes a natural setting in recent times. Late last year, the island hosted part of the recording of the Warner Bros film “In the Heart of the Sea,” directed by Ron Howard. Also recently an episode of “Doctor Who”, a series of BBC television and icon of British popular culture, appearing in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest in the world antenna was recorded in Lanzarote.

Investment and employment opportunities

Taking into account all these recordings, San Ginés has highlighted the interest that the council has in enhancing the territory as “film set because of the economic inversion and the creation of employment that this implies .” “We strive to encourage and collaborate on what we can from this administration to ensure that your project is successful, since its success would mean for this island an unparalleled promotional opportunity”, stated through a press release.
